After 12 Long Years, Sparkles the Dog Finally Comes Home

“My first reaction was shock,” explained Kara Starzyk, APR Shelter Manager, reflecting on the extraordinary series of events that led to Sparkles' discovery. “The next feeling was relief because the woman still very much cared about her and there was no question in her mind that she wanted her back.”

The Reunion

Arriving at the shelter, Katie was confronted with a flood of emotions as memories of her lost dog rushed back. “I was in utter disbelief. I thought it was fraud at first... The moment she said Sparkles' name, I knew instantly it was her,” Katie recounted, her voice quaking with emotion.

The reunion was nothing short of heartwarming. Boada decided that her daughter should be the one to bring Sparkles home, making it a truly unforgettable moment, captured on camera and embraced by loved ones. “There's no better feeling than that,” Katie reflected, reveling in the joy of Sparkles' return.

The Challenge Ahead

However, the reunion was bittersweet. Sparkles returned in a frail state, malnourished and in need of medical attention. “Seeing the condition she was in really reinforced my belief that she wasn't cared for the way she should have been,” Katie expressed, emphasizing the struggle that lay ahead.

Despite these challenges, Katie is committed to nursing Sparkles back to health. “I signed up to love and care for her from the beginning, and I wouldn't change that for anything,” she affirmed, passing through a landscape of hardship and newfound hope.

A Message to Pet Owners

Starzyk emphasizes the importance of microchipping pets and keeping information updated as a crucial line of defense against the dangers of pet theft. “Continue to search for that pet because you never know when it might end up in a shelter,” she urges, echoing Katie's enduring hope.
