Just a couple of years back, Redd was part of the backdrop, handling laundry duty for teammates like Terrance Shannon Jr. who were gearing up for their own glory on the court. Redd, who honed his skills at St. Ignatius College Prep, found himself at a crossroads right after high school. Although he had the love for basketball, the path to playing in a high-caliber program was daunting and not guaranteed. Fortunately for Redd, an important connection with former Illinois assistant coach Tim Anderson proved to be a game changer.

After spending a year as a dedicated student manager, Redd's perseverance paid off—the young player earned a spot on the active roster of the University of Illinois basketball team. “It's been a crazy journey for me. I was rebounding for guys doing laundry, and the next thing I know, I'm practicing next to NBA guys, so it's been an awesome journey,” Redd shared.

“While even I would tell you I'm far from the most important piece in the program, it's a fact that I've been a part of more success and winning than pretty much any other player that's come and gone to Champaign in the last four seasons,” Redd mentioned, emphasizing his dedication.

Unlike many of his fellow seniors, the prospect of going pro in basketball remains a distant dream. “For me, it's a stopping point where I'm content with my journey, and the successes that I've been able to have playing basketball and being able to play at a level like this is a dream come true. And it's always fun when you've been winning,” he observes.

After completing a summer internship at Madison Industries—a company founded by a proud alumnus deeply invested in Illini Athletics—he plans to transition into a full-time job as a Financial Analyst this fall.

“That's unselfishness, that's putting everyone else ahead of himself… he understands who we are, he understands the culture, he understands what we're about,” Coach Brad Underwood praise-his bond and understanding of the team and its mission.
