Dec. 19—JAMESTOWN — At the Jamestown High School pool, an invigorating spirit fills the air this season. Coach Ben Smith can hardly contain his excitement as he remarks, "We're only three weeks in but so far, so good." Coming off a commendable previous season, the swimmers are back, embracing the joy of competition with determination and excitement.

Last year, the Blue Jays clinched an unprecedented perfect record of 7-0 in conference and 10-1 overall, marking a season to remember. As they gear up for the new challenge, Coach Smith emphasizes the importance of adapting, stating, "Each season is different, and every team is different, so we reassess our goals and the paths we take to achieve them each year." This adaptability is crucial in the world of sports, where each athlete and each competition brings new lessons and opportunities for growth.

A Passion for Excellence

What sets the Blue Jays apart is not only their past achievements but the way they embrace the present. "The boys are excited to grow, learn, and of course, have fun along the way," Smith adds, underscoring the camaraderie and competitive spirit amongst the team. Their journey commenced on December 1, culminating in the Jamestown Relays on December 13, a fun, low-pressure meet designed to kick start the season.

Breaking Records and Setting Goals

The season opener saw the Blue Jays triumph with a commendable score of 550 points. However, during their dual meet against Fargo South, the squad faced a setback, losing 94-72, yet one shining moment emerged when Finn Moser etched his name in history by breaking the school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.26 seconds, smashing the previous record of 54.63 seconds.

Smith noted, "Typically, records fall during championship meets when we're at our best, so witnessing one fall so early in the season is thrilling!" Moser's dedication and hard work have certainly paid off; he's not just a promising athlete but a role model for his teammates.
