"So we started doing that for fun," Jepsen recalls. "And then 'Day and Night' was born when I was just driving in my car here in LA. I loved its simplicity. It perfectly described this organic kind of dreamy thing, and then the nighttime, you immediately feel things get heightened and a little darker and more experimental."

Marriage, Motherhood, and Musical Ambition

The timing of the album's creation couldn't have been more poignant. Shortly after getting married in October 2025, Jepsen welcomed her first child in March. Balancing motherhood with a demanding music career was no small feat. But she found clarity in her priorities.

"It was so obvious what the priority was, which was building a career around a life, not the other way around," she says.

The album's creation became a way to structure her thoughts and experiences, turning personal milestones into creative fuel. As she puts it, "I'm more of a planner than I've ever been before."

What's Next?

Jepsen's ambitions don't stop at music. She's currently working on the Broadway adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You, writing the music and lyrics with Ethan Gruska. The project is a dream collaboration that brings together her musical talents and her love for storytelling.

"We wanted to handle with care, but not trepidation," she explains. "We wanted to feel emboldened to think about what would cause these characters to feel like words are not enough and they need to break into the song."

With her upcoming musical, Jepsen is proving that she's not just a pop star—she's an artist who thrives at the intersection of music, narrative, and emotion.

Even as she navigates motherhood, Jepsen remains committed to constant creation. "A big part of my nature is to be in constant creation. I like to be making things. I don't find it tiring," she says. "It fuels and excites me."
