Each week, our local schools produce remarkable performances that deserve recognition. It's not just about winning; it's about capturing the hearts of the fans and bringing pride to the community.

Readers of the Visalia Times-Delta and Tulare Advance-Register can participate in the weekly voting to decide who truly deserves the title of Athlete of the Week. The poll closes at noon on Friday, May 22, and there are no restrictions on how often you can vote, so make sure to cast your favorites multiple times in support!

Here are the nominees for the week of May 18-22:

• Paola Bejarano, Girls Track and Field, Tulare Western: Paola excelled by clinching the shot put crown at the Central Section Division I Championships, showcasing her skill and dedication.
• Matthew Corral, Baseball, Tulare Western: An outstanding pitcher, Matthew hurled four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, leading his team to a decisive 9-2 victory over San Luis Obispo.
• Wyatt McElree, Baseball, Redwood: Wyatt displayed grit and talent, tossing six strikeouts in just five frames while helping his team secure a major upset against Clovis.
• Rayah Rodriguez, Softball, Redwood: Rayah brought the crowd to its feet, hitting back-to-back home runs and contributing significantly with a triple and seven RBIs in a staggering 23-0 victory.
• Isabella Vazquez, Girls Track and Field, El Diamante: Isabella's victory in the Central Section Division II 1,600-meter individual championship helped lead her team to a well-deserved section title.
• Anna Villavicencio, Girls Track and Field, Woodlake: Anna made a statement by sweeping both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter championships at the Central Section Division IV meet.

How to Nominate Future Athletes

Have someone special in mind for next week's vote? Nominations for the Athlete of the Week are based on performances and stats collected by the Visalia Times-Delta. Anyone can nominate a high school varsity player from Tulare County. Just send your nominations by Monday morning following the week's games to ensure they're considered!

Nominations can be emailed to sports reporter Vongni Yang at vyang2@visaliatimesdelta.com. Don't forget to include relevant statistics and, if possible, a photo of the athlete in action.
