Kevin Sinfield, former England rugby league captain, has been knighted for his extraordinary contributions both on the field and off. Beyond his sporting achievements—holding the record for most points scored in Super League history—Sinfield's legacy is deeply tied to his charitable work.

In 2019, after his teammate Rob Burrow was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), Sinfield launched a series of fundraising initiatives that raised over £11 million. His dedication culminated in an emotional moment during a marathon in 2023, where he pushed Burrow's wheelchair across the finish line before carrying him to victory.

"I am deeply honoured and grateful to receive this award on behalf of the rugby and MND communities," said Sir Kevin. The knighthood is a tribute not only to his athletic prowess but also to his compassionate leadership during one of life's greatest challenges.

Lionesses Shine Bright

The 2026 honours list also pays homage to the women who brought glory to England in the 2025 Euro 2025 tournament. Six Lionesses were awarded MBEs, including Chloe Kelly, who scored the decisive penalty that secured the title.

At just 20 years old, Kelly is among the youngest recipients of nearly 1,200 individuals recognised in this year's honours. Other notable names include Michelle Agyemang, Jess Carter, Hannah Hampton, Lauren James, and Alessia Russo—each a testament to the strength, skill, and dedication of British women's football.

"We both feel it is an extraordinary privilege and an honour - as well as a complete and utter surprise - to be recognised in this way," said the duo in a joint statement.

Beyond animation, the honours also recognise individuals from music and film. Tony Iommi, former guitarist of Black Sabbath, is made an MBE for his contributions to music and charity. Similarly, Judge Jules receives the same honour for services to music, entertainment law, and youth empowerment.

Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley has been appointed an MBE for her services to drama and charity. Speaking about her recognition, she said, "I've been able to raise an awful lot of money and I'm proud of that and I know that my mum's up there in heaven shining down today."
