From Heartache to Hope: The Chapeks' Journey to Parenthood

A Leap of Faith

The Chapek couple spent over ten years grappling with the emotional toll of infertility, their dreams of parenthood seemingly slipping away with each passing year. Shara Chapek, now 41, and her husband Matt, 40, found themselves at a crossroads during the COVID-19 pandemic. Losing their jobs and facing lockdowns, they decided it was time to redefine their priorities.

"At first, I was really worried because we had no idea what we were going to do," Shara recalled. "But we decided to start having conversations about what we wanted our future to look like."

Life in Alberta

The Chapeks were living in Alberta, Canada, where the harsh winters and Shara's office job wore them down. Despite their close-knit community and family ties, they felt trapped in a cycle that seemed destined for disappointment. As Shara described, "The thing we hated most about living there was how cold it is... the temperature can often drop to -40 degrees Celsius, and the winters are so long and dark."

With pandemic-induced isolation setting in, their dreams grew dimmer. The couple was no longer able to meet friends or even enjoy vacation trips, ultimately leading them to a pivotal realization.

Contemplating a Bold Move

Amidst their life-altering decisions, the prospect of relocating to Hawaii was proposed by Matt. Shara initially dismissed this as a 'crazy idea.' However, after much debate, introspection, and the encouragement of Shara's father, who told her, "that's OK if it doesn't work out. Then you can just go on your next adventure," they decided to embrace the uncertainty. "I cried every day for a month because I was so scared that it wasn't going to work out," she admitted.

The Move

In a matter of months, they sold their belongings and relocated over 3,200 miles to Oahu, Hawaii. What they didn't anticipate was how this change would alter the trajectory of their lives in unimaginable ways.

Finding Hope, Unexpectedly

A year following their big move, everything changed when Shara discovered she was pregnant. "I had never been pregnant before," Shara excitedly recounted. After taking a test due to unusual feelings of emotionality, she was met with disbelief when it returned positive. "When the result tested positive, I'm pretty sure my heart stopped beating for a couple of minutes."

Matt was stunned too, insisting, "There is no way this is real."

Miracle Babies

Their first daughter, Haven, now 2 years old, was born, soon followed by their second daughter, Chloe, who is now only six months old. Reflecting on their unexpected family, Shara emphasized, "It was like we had won the lottery at life." Motherhood has completely altered her view on their move; the couple initially saw it as an escape but instead it has become a cornerstone of healing and fulfillment.

"We are so happy we took that leap of faith," Shara joyfully articulated. Now living in what they call their "dream life" in Hawaii, Shara acknowledges the journey was well worth the pain they endured.

Shara recently shared her journey on Threads, revealing how her life transformed after a strenuous chapter marked by heartache: "A year after we moved, we got pregnant with our miracle baby. I just delivered our second miracle baby in September." In a response that resonated widely, she reminded others facing similar struggles with infertility, "You are not broken; your life has so much value, even if you never get your miracle baby."

Daily Realities

As they now navigate life in Hawaii raising two young girls, Shara reflects on the blissful chaos of motherhood, "Our dream life now completely revolves around our babies... What an absolute honor it is to be raising these children and have the title of Mom and Dad." It might be exhausting, but as she says with laughter, "We are loving every second of it."
