Holland Christian's Dynasty: Girls Track Team Claims Regional Glory!

The Championship Journey

This past weekend, the Holland Christian girls track and field team showcased their excellent form at the Division 2 regional championships, establishing themselves as a formidable force in the state. With a stunning total of 187 points, the Maroons left their closest competitors, Coopersville, trailing by a whopping 78 points. Unity Christian claimed third place with 74 points, while Hamilton secured ninth overall with a respectable 23 points.

Star Performances

The star of the meet was Avery Engbers, who clinched the regional title in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:14.85. Engbers didn't stop there; she also teamed up with Ellery Lampen to finish first and second in the 3,200 meters, clocking in at 11:31.70 and 11:35.59, respectively, solidifying their spots at the state finals.

“Our team's unity and spirit were electric. Everyone pushed each other to perform their best!” Engbers exclaimed after the meet.

Throwing for Glory

In the field events, Kate Van Appledorn and Miya DeBlecourt elevated their game by taking first and second in the shot put, qualifying for states with remarkable throws of 39-6 and 36-7 1/2, respectively. Further showcasing her prowess, Van Appledorn dominated the discus event with a winning throw of 131-7, while DeBlecourt also secured a qualifying spot in that event with a solid 116-9.

Jumping Heights

The high jump was another highlight for the Maroons, as Camryn Siegers and Sophie Jones both qualified, producing thrilling performances that energized the crowd. Their synchronized jumps not only raised the bar but also the spirits of their teammates.

Relays and More

The team's strength shined brightly in the relay events too. The quartet of Eliana Stob, Olivia Hollebeek, Geurink, and Anika Stob not only claimed victory in the 4x400 relay (4:04.20) but also demonstrated exceptional teamwork to win the 4x800 relay in a stunning time of 9:38.50.

In addition to their relay successes, Holland Christian was no stranger to showing their depth across events. The 4x100 relay team, comprising of Annalise Capestany, Kensie Mulder, Abby VanDusseldorp, and Harmoni Osterink, finished second with a time of 51.28, reinforcing the collective strength of the squad.

The Boys' Achievements

Meanwhile, Hamilton's boys team showed their mettle as well. The twin brothers, Hudsen and Garner Hulst, showcased brilliant performances in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing first and second and solidifying their spots for state qualification. Hamilton twins demonstrated their dominance further in the 4x200 relay, where they teamed with Carter Hickok and Noel Vigil to finish second (1:30.87).
