"I was so young, to where it was: As long as I was with my mom, I was good," he said. "But at the same time I was like … why did it have to be us? Why are we going through this?"

Yet, instead of breaking, Golden became stronger. His grandmother noted that while most kids would have cried or thrown tantrums, Golden accepted their circumstances without complaint and even showed selflessness.

"He accepted what was going on, or at least we thought, because he never complained about it," Williams said. "He would get so selfless and be like, 'Well, Granny, we only have one biscuit left. You take it.' And it's like, 'No, you take it.'"

Football as a Ticket to Opportunity

For Golden, football wasn't just a sport – it was his ticket out of the darkness. From an early age, he showed exceptional talent, running fast enough to win races in elementary school and playing with his uncle Major at just 5 years old.
