"I had a bit of a rough upbringing," Davis tells BBC Sport, sharing memories of being kicked out of school and living in a hostel. "Because I wasn't making money, it was challenging. I was only getting around £100 every two weeks. It was a hard time in my life but these are the things I've had to come through." Davis's ascent into the world of boxing began amid these tumultuous experiences.

Boxing found its way into his life when he first stepped into a gym at the age of 12. However, as responsibilities mounted, those dreams faded. Davis recounts, "I was living with my first baby's mum at 14, and after a while, I got my own flat. But it was difficult to focus on boxing when I had to provide for my children. I found myself in the streets, getting involved with gangs, and eventually selling drugs just to survive."

The Prison Stint

Davis's life in the streets ultimately landed him in legal troubles, leading to a prison sentence not long after. "I was on the path some of my closest friends and family were walking. My time in prison served as a wake-up call," he reflects. This period became pivotal as he realized that he needed to change his life trajectory.

"The turning point was when my friend and my cousin got locked up for murder. I thought, 'I don't want that.' So, I dedicated myself to boxing."

Life After Prison

Upon leaving prison for the second time, Davis made a conscious decision to steer clear of his past environment. He relocated and made his professional boxing debut in 2018, determined to prove to himself and the world that he could rise above his former life.

'I Love Being a Role Model'

Success in the boxing ring is not just about personal achievements for Davis. It is about inspiring change in his community. As a father of six now, he emphasizes the importance of being a positive role model. Davis says, "I want to give back and get kids off the street. I've been through a lot—it's real what I say. I know some kids are misled, and it helps for someone like me to speak to them."

"This is my chance to change my life and my family's lives for good. I know what's at stake, and I intend to give my all."
