Dowse was drawn to the story because it had everything: a Shakespearean plot, a larger-than-life character, and a wild idea that captured the imagination.

"He's riddled with idiosyncrasies. He's jumping a river, but can't swim. He's a stunt driver but doesn't have a license," Dowse said. "The man spent his entire life jumping things and breaking every bone in his body. He's no coward but he was legit worried about the jump — and for good reason."

The film explores Carter's inner turmoil as much as his outer bravery, showing that even heroes have fears.

"Some improvised lines were born because we shot last year when the tariffs were happening," Dowse said. "The tension was simmering."
