"I was actually out fishing when the teams got announced and my football coach texted me congratulations. I didn't know what he was texting me for," Whitman recalled as the emotions of the moment washed over him.

For Max, the news of his selection to the All-State, Second-Team Class B Baseball roster was both thrilling and unexpected. After facing a slump in the middle of the season, it wasn't something he had anticipated. "I had a pretty bad slump midway through the season, so I didn't think I was going to make it because of that," he admitted. "Even though I would consider it a slump, I still had like a hit per game. It just wasn't where I knew I could be at." With humility and clarity, Whitman embraces the complexities of his game.

A Lifelong Love for the Game

Whitman's journey with baseball began at an early age, showcasing a natural talent that many can only dream of. "When I was really little, I had a little plastic bat and my mom and my grandpa would pitch to me. I guess I was able to make contact with it when I was like 1," he fondly remembers. "Nobody thought we were making it to the third day—we didn't even think we would get a third game. But we ended up beating two teams that pretty much smoked us during the year," he said, his enthusiasm igniting with the memory of triumph against adversity.

As Whitman prepares for the next chapter in his life, playing American Legion baseball with Carrington before heading to the University of North Dakota, he reflects on what he will miss. "Hitting is probably my favorite part of baseball, so I am probably going to miss that the most. But I'll miss just spending time with the guys," he shared.
