Sisters in the Spotlight: Halle and Haidyn Crockett Thrive at UJ

Introduction: The Jamestown Journey

The University of Jamestown holds a special place for many. For Halle Crockett, it was always a top option. "UJ was always a top option for me," she shared. The allure of a smaller college, combined with the chance to play basketball, made it a perfect fit. As a junior now, Halle reflects on her journey, which isn't just hers alone; her younger sister, Haidyn, is making waves as well.

A Family Tradition

Basketball runs deep in the Crockett family. Growing up, the sisters would watch their older brother play and endlessly grind through drills with their dad. "We spent hours in the gym together, cultivating our love for the game," Halle reminisced. This bond was not just about basketball; it forged a family identity centered around hard work and perseverance.

The Path to UJ

Halle, who played for the Northern Cass varsity team from 2019-2023, always aspired to play at the college level. Yet, her passion extended beyond basketball; she excelled in volleyball as well, winning a state championship. However, a feeling of incompleteness led her to choose basketball over volleyball when signing with UJ. "I made it official during my senior season, and it has been a journey since then," she stated.

The Transition to College Basketball

The leap from high school to college basketball proved challenging. Halle described the transition as eye-opening. "College basketball is a year-round commitment, unlike high school where you're more flexible with your time outside of the season. It surprised me how competitive everyone was and how their commitment to the sport would test my own capabilities."

Growing Pains and Success

Initially, she played on the junior varsity team, and the transition was tough. "Going from being a key player in high school to having to carve out a new role on the team was challenging. I learned that college sports are unpredictable and full of surprises," Halle admitted. But perseverance paid off; she now plays for the Jimmies' varsity roster, contributing meaningfully each game.

Haidyn's Entry into the Scene

Haidyn, inspired by her sister's path, joined UJ after an outstanding high school career. As a finalist for the 2025 Miss Basketball, she averaged an impressive 29 points per game. "For as long as I remember, I wanted to play college basketball. UJ had the right combination of basketball, academics, and atmosphere," Haidyn reflected, highlighting the coaching staff's confidence in her.

The Rigors of College Athletics

Adjusting to the demands of being a college athlete overwhelmed Haidyn at times. "People don't realize the commitment it takes. Early mornings, film sessions, recovery time—it's a lot," she explained. But her hard work has already earned her a starting spot on the team, and she's determined to prove her worth on the court.

The Family Legacy Continues

The Crockett sisters are not just teammates; they are paving the way for the next generation of athletes. "Trusting the process is key, and I never expected anything to be handed to me," Haidyn emphasized. Her ability to adapt and excel has motivated her continuously. With 92 total points so far this season, Haidyn has shown that she is ready to shine.

Conclusion: Proud to Be a Jimmie

For both Halle and Haidyn, being a part of the Jimmies' program is not just about basketball; it's about forming a community. As Halle put it, "Being part of a team that is bigger than myself has been my greatest accomplishment. I'm proud to be a Jimmie and grateful for the supportive environment that has pushed me to grow, challenge myself, and find my place in this beautiful game." Looking forward, both sisters are excited for what lies ahead and equipped with the resilience and skills to make their dreams a reality.
