It's hard to believe it's been five long years since Snail Mail released an album. With anticipation bubbling over, Lindsey Jordan is set to captivate us once again with her upcoming record, Ricochet, hitting the shelves on March 27 via Matador Records.

Reflective Sounds and Nostalgia

As a sneak peek, Jordan has gifted us with the lead single, “Dead End.” This track is a nostalgic rocker, drenched in immersive Nineties guitar hooks, that takes us back to simpler days spent with friends, perhaps parked at the dead end of a suburban lane. “And the sound of your name/Brings down the perennial rain,” she sings, evoking a wistful air as the song bursts into an exuberant “nah-nah-nah” singalong, beautifully capturing the joyful essence of youth. It's effortless to feel excited about her return.

Music Video Magic

In a video she co-directed with Elsie Richter, fans can catch a glimpse of Jordan wandering through her home state of North Carolina, complete with vibrant fireworks and an adorable cameo from her dog, Pip. “We shot the video for 'Dead End' in random places all around rural North Carolina between the hours of 5 p.m. and 4 a.m. on one of the coldest nights of my life,” she recalled. “The goal was to be inconspicuous with the fireworks, but someone called the cops on us.” This amusing anecdote gives us a window into her creative process, painting a picture of dedication and fun behind this work.

The Journey to Ricochet

Ricochet marks Jordan's third album, following 2021's Valentine and her breakout 2018 LP, Lush. Written during her relocation from New York City to North Carolina, the album stands as a testament to her growth. In the recording sessions, which she described as “refreshing, trusting, and comfortable,” Jordan made a significant creative choice—she crafted the instrumentals and vocal melodies first, later completing the lyrics. “I've never done this before,” she noted, showcasing her evolving artistry.

Joining Jordan on Tour

Jordan is ready to take her new sounds on the road, announcing a North American tour to kick off on April 10 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fans will be able to catch her in major cities such as Brooklyn, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, concluding the tour on May 15 at Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City. Following this, she'll head across the pond to London's Electric Ballroom on June 26. Tickets are set to go on sale this Friday, and I encourage you to grab them before they sell out!
