The actor didn't just play a climber; he lived the experience. Hiddleston and director Jennifer Peedom, along with Genden Phuntsok (who plays Tenzing), climbed to Everest's base camp together, an experience that connected him to the physicality of the role and its spiritual dimension.

"I love that this film really reveals the deeply spiritual relationship that Tenzing had with the mountain, not a mountain to be conquered, but a goddess to be revered, a mother into whose lap he might climb," Hiddleston said.
