WVU Coaches Caravan Makes a Triumphant Return to Glade Springs

The Return of a Time-Honored Tradition

The WVU Coaches Caravan, the longest-running fundraising event for West Virginia University athletics, is set to roll into The Resort at Glade Springs on May 4. This cherished tradition, which offers a glimpse into the lives and journeys of the talented coaches and athletes at WVU, continues to thrive despite challenges posed by the pandemic. With the caravan's 54th stop in place, it not only symbolizes resilience but also reflects the deep-rooted passion of Mountaineer fans.

An Evening to Remember

On Wednesday, May 6, around 20 officials from the WVU athletics department will fill the venue, ready to engage with fans and supporters. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and festivities graciously kick off at 6 p.m.

“It would have been 56 but Covid knocked us out a couple of times,” said Jim Ferguson, a member of the Mountaineer Athletic Club who organizes the event.

Star-Studded Lineup

This year's caravan features an impressive lineup of coaches, including:

• Rich Rodriguez - Head Football Coach
• Ross Hodge - Head Men's Basketball Coach
• Mark Kellogg - Head Women's Basketball Coach
• Wren Baker - Director of Athletics

Additionally, coaches from various Olympic sports are expected to join, contingent on their availability. This provides an excellent platform for all fans, from football aficionados to basketball buffs, to connect with their favorite teams.

Emceed by the Legendary Tony Caridi

WVU play-by-play announcer Tony Caridi, who's been a vital part of the Mountaineer community since 1997, will emcee the evening. Hot off the heels of receiving the esteemed Morehouse Award from the West Virginia Sports Writers Association, Caridi carries the spirit of Mountaineer athletics with him, promising an engaging narrative of the night's proceedings.

The Spirit of Mountaineer Pride

The annual Mountaineer Spirit Award will also take center stage, presented this year by Reese Allen, the newly appointed 71st Mountaineer Mascot. The presentation of the rifle, a significant tradition, will be performed by the outgoing mascot, Cade Kincaid, during the renowned Passing of the Rifle ceremony, a showcase of the camaraderie that thrives within the Mountaineer family.

Furthermore, attendees can look forward to a celebratory tailgate outside the event tent, featuring delicious offerings like:
